Wallace FFA Tower Garden Donation

Feb 17, 2020

The Wallace FFA Chapter recently held their February meeting and a few local Hi-Line Co-op employees were honored to be in attendance. These employees were able to present the students with two checks totaling $4,000 to go towards the purchase of Tower Gardens for their school. These Tower Gardens will create opportunities for all students of Wallace Public Schools to interact with the process of caring for plants from seed to harvest. Hi-Line Co-op is proud to donate $2,000 towards Tower Gardens that will impact local youth in agriculture. Land O’Lakes provided a matching $2,000 donation through their Member Co-op Matching Funds program.
Using the donation of $4,000, the Wallace FFA Chapter purchased four Tower Gardens and all the needed supplies to get them up and running. These towers operate hydroponically using only water and nutrient solutions to provide a growing environment for the plants. A variety of plants are capable of being grown within this scenario including lettuce, herbs and strawberries.  Artificial lights and a portable base allow these Tower Gardens to exist within multiple different locations, from the outdoors or greenhouses to indoor classrooms with a lack of natural sunlight. Two of the four towers have found their new temporary homes within the 5th and 6th grade classrooms for younger students to learn from. The high school agriculture students are learning how to maintain proper PH levels, care for the cleaning procedures of the towers and research new plants that could be added throughout the year. Hi-Line Co-op wishes students at Wallace the best of luck with their new Tower Gardens!
