Sutherland FFA Greenhouse Donation
Jan 20, 2020
Last week, employees from Hi-Line Co-op met with students, the ag instructor and administration from the Sutherland FFA Chapter to present them with two checks totaling $4,000 to be put towards their brand-new greenhouse. Hi-Line Cooperative is proud to support area youth that are pursuing a passion within agriculture. The local business recognizes the amount of opportunities that will become available for local students thanks to this new structure just outside their school. In addition to the $2,000 that Hi-Line Co-op contributed to the Sutherland FFA greenhouse, Land O’Lakes provided an additional $2,000 to the project as part of their Member Co-op Matching Funds program. All funds, totaling $4,000, will be put towards completion of the greenhouse and projects within it.
The Sutherland FFA Chapter just recently finished the main stages of construction on their greenhouse. Although there are a few minor elements to finish up, students have already begun Agriscience projects within the new structure. The greenhouse is also home to some animals, as the agriculture classes have built and fine-tuned a hydroponics system complete with fish, lettuce and the ecosystem shared between them. The greenhouse is full of automated technology that allows the agriculture students to learn about much more than just plants. Future plans for the greenhouse include a spring plant sale and many more research projects. Congratulations to the Sutherland FFA Chapter and Sutherland Public Schools on this incredible learning space!
